Overview
Over time, old or unused agents can accumulate in your environment. These agents can clutter up your environment and licensing, in addition to making it difficult to troubleshoot any issues that occur organization-wide.
Incydr is not an archival storage solution, so we recommend deactivating backup agents that are no longer connecting or actively being used in your environment. This article explains how to deactivate agents individually or in bulk, and how to remove data from cold storage.
View a list of agents
To view a list of agents and identify any that might be old or unused:
- Sign in to the Incydr console.
- Go to Administration > Environment > Agents.
- (Optional) Click Filter to add specific criteria to limit the results, then click Apply.
- Click the Last check-in column heading to sort by agents that have not connected to the Incydr cloud recently.
Review the results to determine which agents need further investigation and which to deactivate.
Deactivate a single agent
To deactivate a single agent:
- Sign in to the Incydr console.
- Select Administration > Environment > Agents.
- Click a row in the Agents list to open that agent's details.
For environments that use customized backup agent installers configured to auto-register users, we recommend blocking the agent before deactivating. (Select Actions > Block.) Without first blocking the agent, it may reactivate automatically. - From the Actions menu, select Deactivate.
- When the confirmation message appears, click Deactivate.
The agent is deactivated immediately. Incydr monitoring stops. Any associated backup archives are placed into cold storage.
A backup agent continues to consume a license until its archives are removed from cold storage.
Remove data from cold storage
When you deactivate a backup agent, its archives go into cold storage for the period of time defined in Organization settings. To remove an agent's backup data immediately, purge the archive from cold storage.
To purge archives from cold storage via the Incydr console:
Deactivate multiple agents via the Incydr CLI
To bulk deactivate agents, use the Incydr command-line interface (CLI). You must first install and set up the Incydr CLI.
Generate a list of agents
Use the agents command to generate a list of agents. By default, the CLI lists the agents within the command line. The example command below generates a list of active agents in a CSV format.
agents list --active -f csv > output.csv
Open the file and filter the list to identify the agents you want to deactivate.
Deactivate multiple agents
Once you have a list of agents you want to deactivate, use the bulk deactivate command. The agent list must be a file in CSV format containing a guid column with the unique identifier of the agent to be deactivated.
agents bulk-deactivate output.csv
For information about additional options, see the agents bulk-deactivate documentation.
